Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School (Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Hastings on a temporary, full‑time basis. The role focuses on supporting pupils with identified special educational needs (SEN) to help them access the GCSE curriculum and thrive in the school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide targeted small‑group and one‑to‑one support, including pre‑teach and post‑teach reinforcement of key curriculum content.
• Clarify instructions, demonstrate equipment use, and assist with learning tasks such as speech and language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy and handwriting.
• Collaborate with class teachers, the SENDCO and other professionals to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
• Apply agreed behaviour‑management strategies consistently.
• Create and adapt resources to meet individual pupil needs.
• Monitor pupil responses, adjust activities as required, and give regular feedback to teachers and SENDCO.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, particularly those with SEN.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build supportive relationships.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of school policies on child protection, health and safety, behaviour, and equal opportunities.
