Learning Support Assistant (SEN)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our college team in South East London. Working closely with the Learning Support Assistants Coordinator and Learning Inclusion Manager, you will help young people and adults with Special Educational Needs access learning programmes and college services.

Key responsibilities

• Assist learners with educational and social development under the guidance of support managers.
• Promote self‑advocacy and independent learning skills.
• Contribute to person‑centred support plans and assess learner progress.
• Provide personal care, safety, and well‑being support.
• Identify barriers to learning and develop intervention strategies.
• Maintain specialist equipment and assistive technologies.
• Liaise with external agencies, parents, and key workers as required.

Required profile

• Good general education with at least Level 2 Maths and English (or willingness to achieve).
• First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Experience in a multicultural environment and with SEN learners in secondary or further education.
• Understanding of safeguarding and safe learning environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in IT use for educational support.
• Willingness to learn signing languages such as MAKATON, BSL, or Sign‑a‑Long (desirable).
