Learning Support Assistant – SEN (Term Time)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEN school in Chigwell. The role is term‑time only, full‑time (8 am‑4 pm, Monday‑Friday) and offers the chance to make a real difference for pupils aged 5‑19 with severe and profound learning difficulties and associated social‑emotional needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support tailored to individual learning, care and sensory needs.
• Assist with the implementation of personalised learning programmes, care plans and sensory‑based activities.
• Support pupils’ communication, engagement, emotional regulation and independence.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, wellbeing and personal development.

Required profile

• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with complex learning needs.
• Patient, resilient and proactive attitude.
• Experience supporting pupils with SLD and/or PMLD (desirable).
• Experience with personal care, manual handling or sensory support (preferred).
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Previous experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults (desirable).
