Learning Support Assistant (SEN) – Upminster

About the role

An outstanding secondary school in Upminster is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide specialist support for students with Special Educational Needs. The role starts in September and offers a full‑time, long‑term contract with the possibility of becoming a permanent school position.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to secondary students with SEN such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH and speech & language difficulties.
• Collaborate with class teachers and the SENDCo to deliver tailored Individual Education Plans.
• Act as a mentor and positive role model, helping pupils build confidence, academic skills and emotional resilience.
• Promote an inclusive, safe and engaging learning environment.

Required profile

• Transferable experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
• Background as a SEN Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, School Support Worker, Youth Worker, Mentor or Care/Support Worker.
• Patient, adaptable attitude and genuine passion for supporting young people.
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEN categories such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH and speech & language difficulties.
• Ability to implement Individual Education Plans alongside teachers.
• Effective communication and mentoring abilities.
