Learning Support Assistant – SEND Specialist (Hackney)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Hackney from September 2026. You will work closely with pupils who have complex needs, helping them access the curriculum, develop independence, and achieve personal targets in a safe, supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, Severe Learning Difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, and related challenges.
• Assist with communication, emotional regulation, personal care, and sensory interventions.
• Implement behaviour‑management strategies and support sensory‑friendly activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes.
• Promote an inclusive, nurturing classroom atmosphere.
• Monitor, record, and report pupil progress and achievements.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or adults with complex SEND needs, autism, learning disabilities, or challenging behaviour.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child‑protection procedures.
• Calm, patient, and adaptable attitude in a demanding setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

Required skills

• Team Teach training (or similar positive behaviour management).
• MAPA (Managing Aggressive Behaviour) training.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other alternative communication methods.
