Learning Support Assistant (Sensory Support) – Full‑time Supply

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to provide one‑to‑one sensory support for a blind pupil at Northfield School, Billingham. This full‑time supply position runs for the academic year and focuses on enabling the student to access all school activities safely and independently.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the pupil with safe movement around classrooms, corridors and outdoor areas.
• Provide descriptive support for visual information, learning resources and classroom activities.
• Support the pupil during lunchtimes, explaining meal options and encouraging independence.
• Collaborate with teachers and the SEND team to tailor support to the pupil’s individual needs.
• Promote confidence, inclusion and independent learning throughout the school day.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant.
• Experience supporting pupils with visual impairments, sensory needs or other SEND requirements.
• Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
