Learning Support Assistant – September Start

About the role

We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a mainstream secondary school in Barking and Dagenham from September 26. Working under the SENCO, you will help pupils with ASD, ADHD and anxiety to access learning safely and confidently.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and support pupils during lessons and break times.
• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group assistance to students with additional needs.
• Monitor wellbeing and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
• Assist teachers with classroom activities and behaviour management.
• Promote inclusive participation in all school programmes.

Required profile

• Current knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and safeguarding policies.
• Experience supporting students with ASD, ADHD or anxiety.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the SENCO and teaching staff.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusive education.

Required skills

• Understanding of SEN legislation and safeguarding guidelines.
• Familiarity with strategies for supporting ASD, ADHD and anxiety.
