Learning Support Assistant – Student Welfare Team

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join the Student Welfare team at a welcoming secondary school in Nailsea. The role is term‑time only and offers the chance to make a tangible difference by supporting pupils with additional educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide classroom support for identified students with additional educational needs.
• Collaborate with teachers to adapt teaching strategies and ensure curriculum access.
• Encourage and sustain pupil engagement, motivation and confidence during lessons.
• Assist pupils during break and lunchtime when required.
• Build positive relationships with students, staff and external agencies.
• Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively in line with school procedures.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school and support the Student Welfare team as needed.

Required profile

• GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent Level 2) in English and Maths.
• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational setting.
• Understanding of how to support pupils with a range of additional educational needs.
• Good ICT skills and the ability to use technology to aid learning.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Team‑oriented, calm, resilient and flexible with a positive attitude.
