Learning Support Assistant – Teaching Support for SEMH Students

About the role

This permanent, full‑time position supports an established Alternative Provision school in West London. You will work directly with students aged 11‑16 who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop positive behaviour.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH challenges.
• Implement consistent behaviour management and de‑escalation techniques.
• Assist teachers delivering core subjects such as English, PSHE and Humanities.
• Promote student engagement, emotional regulation and positive learning behaviours.
• Collaborate with teaching, SEN and support staff to monitor progress and plan interventions.
• Maintain safeguarding standards and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker.
• Background in secondary SEN schools, PRU or Alternative Provision settings.
• Proven ability to support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills and a calm, resilient approach.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
