Learning Support Mentor for Special Needs School

About the role
The school is seeking a compassionate Learning Support Mentor to join its team in September. You will work directly with children and teenagers who have autism, ADHD, communication challenges, learning difficulties, and mental health needs, helping them build confidence, self‑esteem, and academic progress.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support tailored to each pupil’s individual needs.
- Assist with classroom activities, lesson preparation, and behavioural strategies.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting insights to teachers and senior staff.
- Facilitate sensory, play, and communication therapies, including the use of Makaton and sign language.
- Adapt communication style and support techniques to suit diverse learning profiles.
Required profile
- Patient, empathetic, and enthusiastic about supporting vulnerable learners.
- Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, or related fields are welcome, though not mandatory.
- Previous experience working with children or vulnerable adults is beneficial.
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the dynamic needs of a special‑needs environment.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Makaton and basic sign language.
- Familiarity with sensory, play, and speech‑language support techniques.
