Lecturer in English

About the role

Hugh Baird College, an Ofsted Outstanding further‑education provider, is seeking up to four Lecturers in English to start in September 2026. The role can be full‑time or part‑time and will involve teaching a range of English courses to learners across levels, contributing to curriculum development and supporting the college’s commitment to high‑quality learning.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging lessons to students enrolled on various English programmes.
• Provide clear, constructive feedback and assess learner progress using appropriate methods.
• Operate within the college’s Quality Assurance framework and adhere to behaviour management policies.
• Administer and organise course components, including record‑keeping and student support.
• Contribute to curriculum innovation, development and implementation.
• Maintain and update professional teaching expertise.

Required profile

• PGCE, Certificate of Education or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Level 3 qualification in English.
• Proven teaching experience across a range of levels.
• Knowledge of English subject matter, examinations and assessment requirements.
• Understanding of value‑added measures and progress performance.
• Experience developing external partnerships to enrich learning.

• Salary between £33,000 and £41,108 per annum (pro‑rated for part‑time).
