Lecturer in Global Affairs & International Relations (0.8 FTE)

About the role

The university is seeking a part‑time Lecturer (0.8 FTE) to cover a 10‑month maternity leave. You will join the Division of Social and Political Sciences and contribute to the undergraduate Global Affairs, Politics and International Relations programme.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials for Global Affairs, Politics and International Relations modules.
• Design and mark assessments, provide constructive feedback and support student learning.
• Supervise undergraduate dissertations related to course themes.
• Act as a Personal Academic Tutor, offering pastoral and academic guidance.
• Participate in recruitment activities, open days and student inclusion initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in globalisation theories and international relations, including world‑systems, dependency, realism, feminism and related frameworks.
• In‑depth knowledge of global economic, political and social history, especially non‑Western perspectives.
• Ability to critically engage with themes such as inequality, power, colonialism and development across regions.
• Willingness to guide students in critical analysis of political ideas and real‑world challenges.

Required skills

• Expertise in applying diverse theoretical frameworks to historical and contemporary global issues.
• Experience in supervising undergraduate research projects.
• Strong communication and academic mentoring abilities.
