Liability Underwriter – Complex International Risks

About the role

Avencia Consulting is partnering with a global insurer to recruit a Liability Underwriter who will join an established team handling complex international General Liability risks. The role blends technical underwriting with a commercial focus, targeting emerging industries, new business models, and innovative insurance solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite and trade complex liability risks in line with underwriting authority, company strategy, and portfolio objectives.
• Develop and maintain strong broker and client relationships, identifying new business, cross‑sell, and portfolio growth opportunities.
• Assess risks across emerging industries, evolving business models, and innovative insurance solutions.
• Collaborate with underwriting, wordings, and international teams to deliver high‑level service to brokers and clients.
• Manage global programme coordination, service level agreements, and broker propositions.
• Prepare, review, and approve underwriting documentation and policy wordings as required.
• Monitor market, regulatory, and industry developments to support underwriting decisions and spot emerging trends.
• Support team initiatives, internal projects, and collaborative business activities.
• Analyse opportunities within new technologies, products, and developing market segments.
• Maintain a commercial, forward‑thinking approach, staying informed on emerging risks and market dynamics.

Required profile

• Liability underwriting or broking experience.
• CII qualification or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong understanding of underwriting principles, policy construction, and insurance terminology.
• Ability to assess risks, make informed underwriting decisions, and tailor solutions to client needs.
• Commercially minded with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with brokers, clients, and stakeholders.
• Collaborative, team‑oriented approach with experience working across international teams.
• Organised, self‑motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities.
