Liability Underwriter

About the role

We are seeking a Liability Underwriter to join our London team, focusing on construction and liability risks. You will be responsible for underwriting a high volume of wages and turnover business, with premiums ranging from a few thousand pounds up to six figures.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite construction and liability risks, assessing policy terms and calculating premiums within authority limits.
• Interpret policy and endorsement wordings, drafting or amending wording as required.
• Achieve personal new‑business targets while maintaining loss‑ratio control.
• Maintain strong broker relationships and support sales campaigns to acquire profitable business.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and contractual underwriting guidelines.

Required profile

• Minimum three years’ experience in construction or liability underwriting.
• CII certification (or equivalent) is essential.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and meet performance targets.
• Understanding of claims impact, risk management and market trends.

Required skills

• Interpretation of insurance policy wording.
• Premium calculation and risk assessment.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities.
