Library Assistant

About the role

The University of the West of Scotland is seeking a Library Assistant for its Dumfries Campus Library. Working on the frontline, you will support students and staff from three partner institutions, helping them access both digital and print resources while developing their information and digital skills.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students and lecturers in locating and using library resources, both online and in print.
• Provide one‑to‑one and group training on Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
• Deliver library tours, induction sessions and virtual support for remote users.
• Maintain online records, links to electronic resources and support the digital‑data team.
• Contribute to day‑to‑day library operations, including collections and reading‑list activities as required.
• Ensure a welcoming, well‑maintained library environment and work Monday‑Friday 9 am‑5 pm with occasional flexibility.

Required profile

• HNC qualification or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrated experience in a customer‑service or technical‑service role.
• Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available).
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate clearly with users.

What we offer

• Grade 3 salary range £25,804 – £27,319 per annum.
• Full‑time permanent contract (35 hours per week).
