Linen Porter – Hospital Linen Services

About the role

The Linen Porter supports the hospital’s linen service by delivering clean linen to wards, managing stock, and handling waste in a fast‑paced clinical environment. You will work closely with the Supplies Coordinator and other team members to maintain high standards of hygiene and service continuity.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver appropriate amounts of clean linen to wards using the “top‑up” system.
• Assist new starter induction as part of the “buddy” programme.
• Remove clinical and non‑clinical waste and laundry from departments as required.
• Hang curtains on wards and departments on request.
• Use the CARPS task‑management system to organise daily activity.
• Input linen stock levels using handheld terminals.
• Complete linen quality checks and report any non‑conformances.
• Sort, count, record, and check in/out all linen items.
• Maintain cleanliness of storage areas, corridors and public spaces.
• Stock linen trolleys, cupboards and guest service items.
• Provide weekend support to the linen service at a high standard.

Required profile

• Ability to work in environments with strong odors and exposure to body fluids.
• Comfort working alongside terminally ill, dying or aggressive patients.
• Flexibility to respond to scheduled and ad‑hoc tasks within set timeframes.
• Willingness to follow company policies and report any issues promptly.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the CARPS task‑management system.
• Ability to use the Hive system (training provided).
• Experience entering data on handheld terminals.
