Linux Engineer – London or New York

About the role

The hedge fund is expanding its trading infrastructure and needs a pragmatic Linux Engineer to design, implement, and maintain a high‑performance Linux environment across its global sites. You will work closely with software teams to ensure low‑latency applications run reliably in co‑location facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and execute strategic changes to the Linux platform, supporting new trading types and deployment mechanisms.
• Maintain and optimise Linux servers for low‑latency performance, including kernel tuning and performance analysis.
• Automate provisioning and configuration using Python, Ansible, and optionally Nix/NixOS.
• Collaborate with networking, storage and clustering teams to ensure seamless operation across multiple data centres.
• Provide on‑call support for production issues and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on Linux administration experience, preferably with Debian and RHEL.
• Strong background in performance analysis, kernel tuning, and low‑latency systems.
• Proficiency in Python scripting and Ansible automation.
• Knowledge of Nix/NixOS is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience in financial services is advantageous but not mandatory.
