About the role

DXC Technology is seeking a Linux System Administrator to join its Manchester team. You will work across multiple groups, providing first‑ and second‑level support while driving continuous service improvement in a secure, customer‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

Provide first and second level technical support for incidents and problems.
Monitor system performance and ensure smooth functionality.
Create, maintain and utilise documentation.
Assist in building compliance with processes and policies.

Required profile

Excellent organisation and time‑management skills.
Experience working to ITIL best practices.
Proactive attitude toward identifying root causes and risks.
Willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.

Required skills

Proficiency with UNIX/Linux platforms (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX, etc.).
Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell).
Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef).
Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers).
Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP).
Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS).
Performance tuning and monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat).
Scripting with Bash, Python and version control with Git.
Experience with AWS and cloud automation.
Virtualisation and container technologies (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman).
