Locum Hostel Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a Locum Hostel Assistant to join the team at Lucy Adams House. In this temporary, 0‑hour position you will help maintain a safe, secure environment while supporting residents on their path to independent living.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the premises, control access and ensure the safety of residents, visitors and staff.
• Enforce hostel rules, record and report any incidents or breaches to the Management and Support Team.
• Prepare rooms for new residents and uphold housekeeping standards.
• Assist the support team in developing residents’ social and independent‑living skills.
• Manage inventory and stock items using the organisation’s systems.

Required profile

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an empathetic approach.
• Understanding of homelessness issues and the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.
• Commitment to confidentiality and data‑protection principles.
• Flexibility, resilience and adaptability to meet the demands of a 0‑hour role.
• A genuine desire to help residents progress towards independent living.

Required skills

• Computer literacy with the ability to learn new IT systems quickly.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £13.04 – £27.75 depending on shift and hours worked.
• Hybrid working – a mix of home‑based and office‑based duties in Bury St Edmunds.
• Flexible working around a 37‑hour week and 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), increasing to 32 days after three years, with the option to buy, sell or carry over up to 5 days.
