Low Value Purchasing Officer

About the role

The Low Value Purchasing Officer will manage the procurement and contract activities for the unit, ensuring value for money, compliance with JSP policies and high‑quality service delivery. Working closely with internal customers and external suppliers, the role supports the unit’s purchasing needs across a range of low‑value goods and services.

Key responsibilities

• Procure supplies and services not available through service sources in line with JSP 332 & 895.
• Provide high‑level customer service, responding to enquiries from staff, suppliers and external agencies via email, phone and procurement systems.
• Maintain accurate procurement records for audit purposes and report order details to QM Accounts.
• Explain procurement processes and best‑practice requirements to spend owners.
• Advise on quotes, historic order information and commercial considerations.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and third‑party suppliers to meet service level agreements.
• Ensure all purchases align with Department, Civil Service and Military Service values and standards.
• Complete mandatory training, including Contracting Purchasing & Finance (CP&F) and use the Electronic Procurement Card (ePC) responsibly.
• Support health and safety compliance within the LVP office and undertake miscellaneous tasks as directed.

Required profile

• Good commercial awareness and understanding of public‑sector procurement rules.
• Ability to work under time pressure and manage multiple requests.
• Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused attitude.
• Commitment to adhere to the Civil Service Code and related policies.
• Willingness to undertake continuous professional development and mandatory training.

Required skills

• Use of Electronic Procurement Card (ePC).
• Familiarity with procurement systems and record‑keeping tools.
