Machine Operator – Full‑time Manufacturing Role

About the role

We are seeking a permanent, full‑time Machine Operator for a multi‑disciplined manufacturing organisation based in Dorking. The role involves preparing tools, operating production equipment and ensuring high standards of safety, quality and efficiency on the shop floor.

Key responsibilities

• Retrieve tools from stores, update records and deliver them to machines.
• Perform tool‑changing, clean hoppers and load material into machine hoppers.
• Carry out first‑off inspections, measure against specifications and apply quality‑control checks.
• Remove moulds for disassembly, maintain a clean and organised work area and complete required paperwork.
• Monitor automatic machines, report jams or malfunctions and perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and oiling.
• Repair or replace damaged moulds, pipes, belts, chains and other equipment using hand tools, hand‑powered presses or jib cranes.
• Maintain material inventories and liaise with the Production Manager on any job‑preparation issues.

Required profile

• General engineering experience (essential).
• Ability to work effectively in a team and troubleshoot equipment.
• Engineering background and basic health‑and‑safety awareness.
• BIT NVQ Level 2 (desirable) and willingness to undertake specific training.
• Knowledge of Demag machinery, quality criteria, lean manufacturing and health‑and‑safety legislation (desirable, training provided).

What we offer

• Competitive salary £28,000‑£30,000 per year.
• 40‑hour week with flexible start times (7 am‑9 am) and a shortened Friday shift (8 am‑2 pm).
