Maintenance Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a confident Maintenance Assistant to carry out day‑to‑day maintenance tasks at Cygnet Hospital Harrow. You will help keep the facility safe, functional and comfortable for patients, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Perform basic plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry and painting tasks.
• Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment, identifying and resolving issues promptly.
• Respond to maintenance requests efficiently and record work completed.
• Support planned preventative maintenance schedules and assist with moving or setting up equipment and furniture.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and report major issues.
• Check fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices and emergency lights.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, especially for vulnerable patients.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities or handyman role.
• Basic knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrics and general repairs.
• Ability to communicate clearly and record detailed maintenance information.
• Friendly, conscientious team player with a positive attitude.
• Car driver is advantageous.
