Maintenance Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join the team at Gregory House, a Learning Disability and Autism service in Workington. You will help keep the building, facilities and equipment safe and functional for residents, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine checks, repairs and maintenance of buildings, gardens and equipment.
• Assist with decorating and general upkeep tasks.
• Report faults and defects to the manager and coordinate with external contractors.
• Participate in a one‑week on‑call rota for emergency maintenance.
• Complete paperwork, tool checks and health‑and‑safety documentation.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities role.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Respectful and courteous attitude towards residents and colleagues.
• Willingness to follow established systems and procedures.

Required skills

• Good DIY and basic repair skills.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
