Maintenance Electrician – HM Prison Service (Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a Maintenance Electrician to join the HM Prison Service at HMP Buckley Hall on a temporary, full‑time basis. The role involves maintaining and repairing domestic electrical systems within the prison environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
• Diagnose and replace failed domestic electrical components.
• Respond to breakdowns and ensure work is performed under the appropriate Safe System of Work.
• Fault‑find and problem‑solve on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
• Undertake electrical installation activities in line with design specifications and IET Wiring Regulations.
• Test and inspect electrical installations according to current IEE wiring regulations.
• Monitor and order critical spares for all electrical services.

Required profile

• Relevant technical qualifications such as City & Guilds 2365 (parts 1‑3), BTEC or NVQ Level 3 or above.
• Knowledge of BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations (18th or 19th Edition) and Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Ability to work at heights.
• Eligibility to obtain full prison security clearance and an enhanced DBS check.
• Valid passport or full birth certificate with photo driving licence, proof of National Insurance and recent proof of address.
• At least two satisfactory employment references.

Required skills

• City & Guilds 2365 (parts 1‑3) certification.
• BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations (18th/19th Edition) competence.
• Electrical systems maintenance and installation.
• Testing and inspection of electrical installations.
• Working at heights.
