Maintenance Engineer – Chemical Plant

About the role

We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our chemical services team in Runcorn. The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep, repair and installation of critical plant equipment, ensuring reliable operation in a safety‑critical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and install tanks, agitators, pumps, gearboxes and GEM‑Ü valves with electric or pneumatic actuators.
• Service water treatment systems including reverse‑osmosis, distilled and ozonated water plants.
• Perform stainless‑steel and plastic pipefitting – welding, gluing or threading – for process lines.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults on 3‑phase and single‑phase equipment.
• Read and interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics to support plant modifications and upgrades.
• Uphold high housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Required profile

• Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, water‑treatment or similar industrial process environments.
• NVQ Level 3 / ONC / HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations; COMPEX or ATEX training is a plus.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a safety‑critical setting.
