Maintenance Engineer – Engineering Lead (Full‑time)

About the role

The Engineering Lead will provide maintenance, testing, validation and breakdown support for the Ramsay Decontamination Hub in Braintree. You will work closely with other Decontamination Lead Engineers, the Group Estates Manager and external contractors to keep the site safe, compliant and operating efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out the Engineering Planned Preventative Maintenance routine as defined in SOP manuals.
• Perform statutory insurance inspections and resolve any remedial actions.
• Deliver a customer‑focused service to minimise production delays and manage unplanned outages.
• Participate in governance meetings, on‑call rota and health & safety compliance activities.
• Act as the first point of contact for external contractors, ensuring permits to work are completed.
• Support the reduction of external contractor reliance by developing in‑house training and maintenance capabilities.
• Mentor and train apprentices across the site and other units.

Required profile

• City & Guilds Part 1/2, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and relevant legislation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Sound fault‑finding techniques and experience managing contractors and service engineers.
