Maintenance Engineer

About the role

Our client, a market leader in the industrial sector, is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join their permanent team in Hebburn. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of plant machinery and systems while leading a team of technicians.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and supervise maintenance activities across all plant equipment to minimise downtime.
• Lead and develop a team of technicians, providing training and guidance.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules in line with manufacturer specifications.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical and automation issues using schematics and diagnostic tools.
• Manage projects for equipment upgrades, repairs or installations, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
• Oversee the use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for optimisation of automation control systems.
• Analyse equipment performance data, identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, spare‑part inventory and equipment history.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during all maintenance work.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing maintenance teams in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong project‑management capability with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical circuits, schematics and automation controls.
• Fluency in English for clear communication and documentation.
• Relevant engineering or technical qualifications; management or project‑management certifications are a plus.
