Maintenance Engineer – Planned & Reactive Maintenance

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Maintenance Engineer to join a fast‑growing environmental company that provides waste management and recycling services across the UK. Based at our busy processing site in Rochester, you will ensure plant and machinery run safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on all site equipment and machinery.
• Respond to breakdowns, diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, and implement repairs.
• Maintain and repair conveyors, compactors, shredders, motors, pumps and related plant.
• Accurately record maintenance activities using internal CMMS and Excel.
• Assist with spare‑part stock control and consumables management.
• Support shutdowns, equipment installations and continuous improvement projects.
• Work closely with operations teams to minimise production disruption.
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling or waste‑management environment.
• Strong fault‑finding abilities across mechanical and electrical systems.
• Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
