Maintenance Operative

About the role

Join the Cambridge Maintenance team at Excelcare, a family‑owned care home group. As a Maintenance Operative you will ensure the premises and grounds of our care homes are safe, comfortable and well‑maintained for residents and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine checks, inspections and minor repairs across multiple care homes.
• Maintain accurate records in line with company policies and health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Order, receive and verify stock and materials needed for maintenance tasks.
• Support the induction of new team members and share best practices.
• Participate in an on‑call rota for emergencies; call‑outs are paid.
• Collaborate with Home Managers, teams and residents to address maintenance needs.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a handy‑person, maintenance, painting & decorating or gardening role.
• Own basic tool set; all consumables are supplied.
• Full UK driving licence and own vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
• Ability to work independently, follow health‑and‑safety guidelines and maintain confidentiality.

What we offer

• Salary of £31,820 per year, dependent on experience.
• 45‑hour work week, Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm.
• Paid on‑call emergency support.
