Maintenance Operative – Student Accommodation

About the role

We are looking for a proactive Maintenance Operative to join a brand‑new flagship student accommodation development in East London. You will work alongside the Maintenance Manager and onsite team to keep building services running smoothly and ensure residents enjoy a high‑quality living experience.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across mechanical, electrical and building fabric systems.
• Diagnose and resolve day‑to‑day maintenance issues, supporting HVAC plant, AHUs and FCUs.
• Carry out routine plant‑room inspections and assist with HVAC system operation.
• Respond to resident maintenance requests within agreed service levels.
• Perform regular building inspections, safety checks and communal area walk‑arounds.
• Escalate specialist faults and support contractor management to ensure safe, high‑standard work.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and promote a strong health & safety culture.

Required profile

• Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, building services, hotel engineering, PBSA or residential maintenance.
• Proven ability to carry out reactive and preventative maintenance in a live environment.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems, plant rooms, AHUs, FCUs or similar building services.
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills with basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
• Good health & safety awareness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
