Maintenance Technician – Manufacturing (Shift 4 on 4 off)

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing maintenance team in Darlington. You will work on a 4‑on‑4‑off shift pattern (two 12‑hour days followed by two 12‑hour nights) and play a key part in keeping production running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and optimise complex mechanical, electrical and control systems.
• Identify early‑stage issues and implement improvements to reduce downtime and boost efficiency.
• Apply rigorous safety protocols when working with electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including LOTO procedures.
• Act as a technical resource for less‑experienced colleagues, providing guidance and support.
• Contribute to preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance activities.
• Enter breakdown information into the CMMS to support data‑driven performance improvements.
• Participate in continuous‑improvement initiatives covering quality, safety, material flow and team development.

Required profile

• Completed a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant discipline, supported by NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Technical qualifications such as ONC/HNC in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic engineering.
• Significant hands‑on experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, working safely with multiple energy sources.

Required skills

• Mechanical and electrical fault‑finding using schematics and testing equipment.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated safety controls.
• Understanding of machine safety systems, including LOTO procedures.
• Experience with Siemens PLC fault‑finding and programming.
• Familiarity with robot systems and powered conveyor controls.
• Proficiency in using a CMMS for data entry and maintenance tracking.
