Management Accountant

About the role

Headstar is looking for a Management Accountant to join its growing finance team in Leeds. You will work closely with the Financial Controller and CFO, taking ownership of month‑end processes, reporting and analysis while developing the commercial finance skills needed for future business‑partnering roles.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare journals, accruals and pre‑payments to support an accurate month‑end close.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate variances before review.
• Support budgeting and forecasting by producing variance analysis and explaining movements.
• Produce KPI reports and assist in preparing monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns on time.
• Oversee accounts payable and credit control, resolving queries and maintaining strong controls.
• Prepare payroll information and process employee expenses in line with policy.
• Assist with year‑end audit documentation and respond to auditor requests.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified ACCA or CIMA candidate with ongoing studies.
• 2‑3 years of experience in finance or management accounting.
• Hands‑on experience of month‑end, journal entries, accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Experience producing budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proactive attitude with a desire to keep learning.

Required skills

• Strong Excel skills.
