Managing Director – Facilities Development & Engineering

About the role

Western University is seeking a senior leader to direct the planning, design and construction of its campus facilities. Reporting to the Associate Vice‑President, Facilities Management, the Managing Director will shape the university’s long‑range space strategy and ensure projects meet aesthetic, sustainability and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all phases of campus facilities development, from concept through construction.
• Align projects with the institution’s strategic, planning and sustainability goals.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to establish design principles, standards and delivery models.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex capital‑project portfolios.
• Communicate project status and risks to executives, board members and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive executive experience in facilities planning, capital projects or engineering within a large‑scale institution (university, healthcare, research campus or municipality).
• Proven track record delivering major capital projects on time and within budget.
• Strong strategic thinking, political acumen and ability to influence senior decision‑makers.
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to develop talent, delegate effectively and drive results.
