Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Turning

About the role

We are seeking an experienced CNC Manufacturing Engineer / CNC Programmer to join our engineering team in Skelmersdale. The role focuses on new product introduction, process improvement and manufacturing optimisation within a precision engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Program and re‑tool CNC machine tools, primarily sliding‑head lathes for turning operations.
• Support CNC grinding and milling activities where required.
• Apply fine‑finishing techniques such as lapping and honing.
• Provide training and technical support to machine setters and operators.
• Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, process documentation and engineering drawings.
• Plan, develop and validate manufacturing processes from customer enquiry through to full production (NPI).
• Design and improve tooling and production fixtures to boost efficiency.
• Collaborate with tooling and equipment suppliers to optimise quality and machine capability.
• Resolve customer issues using structured problem‑solving methods (e.g., 8D).
• Participate in cross‑functional continuous‑improvement projects.
• Select and implement appropriate measurement and inspection methods.

Required profile

• Proven experience programming and setting CNC sliding‑head lathes with strong CNC turning expertise.
• Background in developing manufacturing processes in a precision engineering setting.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and work instructions.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and excellent communication skills.
• Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, HNC/HND or equivalent) preferred.
