Manufacturing Technician II – Basingstoke

About the role

Join Thermo Fisher’s Basingstoke manufacturing site as a Manufacturing Technician II. You will work on a 12‑month contract (possible extension) operating a range of cutting and forming machines to produce metallic and plastic components.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and measure workpieces for defects using templates, gauges and other measuring instruments.
• Read blueprints and job orders to determine product specifications and plan operational sequences.
• Set up, operate and adjust machines such as lathes, cutters, shears, borers, millers, grinders, presses and drills.
• Position and secure stock material, install and align tooling, and change worn accessories.
• Perform minor electrical and mechanical repairs, routine maintenance and coolant replenishment.
• Monitor machine operation, detect malfunctions and make adjustments as needed.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Secondary education or advanced certificate equivalent.
• Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control.

Required skills

• Machine setup and operation (lathes, cutters, shears, borers, millers, grinders, presses, drills).
• Blueprint reading.
• Use of measurement instruments and templates.
• Minor electrical and mechanical repair.
