Market Towns Officer – Community & Economic Development

About the role

We are seeking two enthusiastic Market Towns Officers to support thriving town centres across the Forest of Dean. Based in Coleford with a hybrid working model, you will help deliver the Sustainable Economy Strategy, fostering vibrant, resilient market towns for residents, businesses and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver initiatives that increase footfall, visitor spend and business confidence in town centres.
• Collaborate with businesses, traders and Town Councils to support growth and improve high‑street vitality.
• Support the creation and promotion of local markets and town‑centre events.
• Build and maintain partnerships with community organisations, public‑sector partners and elected members.
• Identify funding opportunities and contribute to successful grant applications.

Required profile

• Experience in economic development, regeneration, town‑centre management or community development.
• Understanding of town‑centre dynamics, challenges and success factors.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building abilities.
• Degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g., economic development, geography, planning, community development).
• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel within the region.

• Permanent contract with up to 37 hours per week (guaranteed until April 2027).
• Hybrid working – office base in Coleford with regular presence in market towns.
• Salary £33,143 – £36,363 per annum pro‑rata.
