MASH Deputy Team Manager

About the role

The Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Deputy Team Manager will support the Team Manager in delivering high‑quality safeguarding decisions for children and families in Wigan. This senior role provides operational leadership, professional supervision and quality assurance while fostering strong partnership working with statutory and voluntary agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Team Manager in day‑to‑day operational management of the MASH.
• Provide leadership, guidance and professional support to social workers and other team members.
• Deputise for the Team Manager during absences and allocate work to ensure safe, manageable workloads.
• Lead team meetings, practice discussions and case audits, promoting a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
• Oversee screening, triage and timely, evidence‑based threshold decisions for safeguarding referrals.
• Authorize and monitor safeguarding decisions, ensuring statutory timescales are met.
• Provide regular professional supervision and support reflective practice for staff, including newly qualified social workers.
• Monitor quality of assessments, conduct audits and implement improvement plans to maintain compliance with statutory guidance.

Required profile

• Experience in multi‑agency safeguarding, child protection or social work leadership.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and local procedures.
• Proven ability to manage teams, allocate workload and promote accountability.
• Excellent communication and partnership‑working skills with statutory and voluntary organisations.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement.
