Material Safety & Toxicology Specialist – Submarine Delivery Agency

About the role

The Submarine Delivery Agency is seeking a specialist to ensure that materials used on Royal Navy submarines are safe for the enclosed environment of a nuclear‑powered vessel. You will join the Naval Authority Technology Group and become an authority on occupational hygiene, material toxicology and chemical safety management.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate chemicals introduced during design, build and in‑service phases of submarine lifecycles.
• Peer‑review specialist safety limits and continuous exposure limits.
• Conduct and lead internal safety audit activities.
• Collaborate with industry experts and provide independent safety assessments.
• Support the Ministry of Defence in protecting submariner health.

Required profile

• UK nationality due to security requirements.
• Experience in safety auditing within a regulated environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to develop expertise in occupational hygiene and toxicology.
