Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

About the role

Barker Associates is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its multidisciplinary team. You will work on a diverse portfolio of building services projects across the UK, delivering mechanical engineering solutions from concept through to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering solutions across projects from concept to completion.
• Carry out condition and technical surveys of existing buildings and produce clear reports.
• Prepare mechanical calculations, designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Produce documentation and drawings for tender stages and assist in tender evaluations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure coordinated design delivery.

Required profile

• Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Relevant industry experience in building services/mechanical design.
• Working towards or desire to achieve professional accreditation (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE).
• Full clean driving licence with access to your own vehicle.
• Subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with BIM and Revit.
• Experience using IES software.
