Mechanical Design Engineer – Defence & Aerospace (Hybrid)

About the role

Join Europe’s leading missile systems designer as a Mechanical Design Engineer on a 12‑month contract. You will work primarily from Stevenage with a hybrid schedule – four days onsite and one day remote – and enjoy flexible start/end times and a possible compressed four‑day week.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical design and proving activities for prime and variant products, including parts and assemblies.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve problems and defects.
• Support functional and environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers and purchasing to address technical queries.
• Plan and report daily activities to meet project milestones.
• Clarify and challenge requirements to reduce lead time, cost and design complexity.

Required profile

• Strong defence or aerospace background.
• Proven experience using Creo / PRO‑E 3D design tools.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerance studies, environmental testing, mass‑property calculations and material selection.
• Familiarity with FMEA, design for manufacture/assembly, tooling/fixture design and structural design.
• Understanding of defence standards, review processes, product lifecycles and industrial validation.
• Ability to work within a multifunctional engineering team and lead design reviews.
