Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

An established manufacturer of bespoke industrial machinery is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Manchester. The role covers the full product lifecycle, from concept design through manufacture and commissioning, working within a collaborative design team.

Key responsibilities

• Produce 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
• Design bespoke mechanical machinery and equipment from concept through to completion.
• Develop assemblies, sub‑assemblies and component designs for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with production, purchasing and project teams to ensure designs meet customer and manufacturing requirements.
• Support the build, testing and commissioning of equipment.
• Carry out design calculations and engineering analysis where required.
• Assist with design reviews and continuous improvement activities.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and health & safety requirements.

Required profile

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Previous experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, preferably on special‑purpose machinery or automation projects.
• Understanding of fabrication, sheet‑metal work, machined components and mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively within a team.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.
