Mechanical Design Engineer (Lancashire)

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering business in Lancashire. You will be responsible for turning customer concepts into detailed, manufacturable designs and supporting projects from inception through to installation.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Design mechanical systems, components and equipment to meet project specifications.
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated technical documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations and participate in design reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers and customers throughout project lifecycles.
• Support manufacturing, assembly, testing and installation activities as required.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, quality and health & safety regulations.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, continuous improvement and enhanced manufacturability.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer role.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or Creo.
• Creation of detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings.
• Generation of Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Engineering calculation capability.
• Understanding of fabrication, machining and manufacturing processes.
