Mechanical Design Engineer – Part‑time (3 days/week)

About the role

Our client, a reputable engineering firm in Chippenham, Wiltshire, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent part‑time basis. The role supports new and existing valve projects, delivering high‑quality engineering drawings, Bills of Materials and comprehensive manuals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 3D design concepts and planning drawings to meet sales briefs.
• Produce designs and drawings in accordance with BS8888 standards.
• Create Installation, Operating and Maintenance manuals for customers and production.
• Modify designs for continual improvement, DFM changes and ATEX compliance.
• Issue and control drawings following company procedures and maintain drawing office housekeeping.
• Transfer legacy drawings into the updated CAD PDM system and manage parts identification and BOMs.
• Support specification and testing of electrical items fitted to valves.
• Provide design assistance across manufacturing, R&D projects and to Sales & Marketing when required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Mechanical Design Engineering.
• Self‑motivated with ability to work independently.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
• Understanding of basic electrical concepts and ATEX implications.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD systems, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
• Knowledge of BS8888 design standards.
• Experience using CAD PDM systems and generating Bills of Materials.
