Mechanical Design Engineer – Pressure Vessels Design

About the role

ALTEN is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and assessment of pressure‑retaining equipment. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure that all solutions meet the required codes, standards and project specifications while supporting safe and reliable delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop pressure vessels and related mechanical components according to project specifications.
• Perform engineering calculations for pressure vessels, piping components and associated systems.
• Prepare and review technical documentation, drawings, calculations and engineering reports.
• Apply ASME codes and standards throughout the design and verification process.
• Support stress assessments and structural evaluations of pressure‑retaining equipment.
• Conduct design justification activities to ensure regulatory and customer compliance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, analysis and project teams to drive successful project delivery.
• Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent military experience).
• 3–8 years of experience working with pressure vessels or pressure‑retaining equipment.
• Strong knowledge of ASME codes and standards, particularly for pressure vessel design.
• Proven ability to perform mechanical calculations and engineering assessments.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
