Mechanical Engineer – Autonomous Vehicle Team

About the role

Join the Bristol Formula Student AI (FSAI) team as a Mechanical Engineer and help design, build, and integrate the mechanical systems of our Autonomous Platform Cup (APC) vehicle. This on‑site role is open to University of Bristol students studying Mechanical, Automotive, or Robotics Engineering who want hands‑on experience in autonomous racing.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop chassis, suspension, steering, and braking systems for the APC vehicle.
• Create CAD models and detailed technical drawings for manufacturing.
• Support fabrication, assembly, and workshop activities.
• Ensure compliance with Formula Student technical and safety regulations.
• Improve vehicle reliability, serviceability, and structural integrity.
• Assist with vehicle testing, setup, and performance optimisation.
• Support technical inspection and documentation.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled at the University of Bristol in Mechanical, Automotive, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong foundation in engineering mathematics, mechanics, and structural analysis.
• Basic understanding of dynamics, materials, and thermal systems.
• Comfortable working hands‑on in workshops and during testing.
