Mechanical Engineer – Design (Advanced Machine Design)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Advanced Machine Design Engineer to join our Mechatronics & Machines team in Coventry. The role involves delivering innovative mechanical engineering projects from concept through to commissioning, supporting a diverse range of industrial customers.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical work packages on large engineering projects independently.
• Act as Technical Lead on smaller projects, ensuring quality, budget and schedule compliance.
• Conduct research, concept generation, feasibility studies and detailed machine design.
• Produce technical drawings and documentation to BS8888 standards.
• Support commissioning activities and ensure compliance with Machinery Directive and CE/UKCA requirements.
• Identify and specify innovative manufacturing technologies and capabilities.
• Collaborate closely with customers, industrial partners and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (BEng, MEng, BSc or MSc).
• 5‑10 years of experience in mechanical design, machinery, automation or manufacturing equipment.
• Proven ability to manage the full engineering lifecycle from concept to delivery.
• Hands‑on approach with willingness to support build and commissioning activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Siemens NX, SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD packages.
• Ability to produce drawings to BS8888 standards.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic system design.
• Familiarity with PLC hardware (desirable).
• Experience with Arduino or Raspberry Pi platforms (desirable).
