Mechanical Engineer – Facilities Management (Cambridgeshire)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Facilities Management team supporting Cambridgeshire County Council sites. Based at New Shire Hall in Huntingdon, you will work across a variety of contract locations, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance to keep our buildings safe, compliant and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, including Legionella compliance, HVAC systems, pumps, compressors and air handling units (AHUs).
• Respond to reactive maintenance requests, diagnose faults and perform repairs on mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Record all activities accurately in the CAFM system using mobile technology.
• Liaise with the helpdesk, contract management team and subcontractors to ensure health and safety compliance.
• Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota and conduct weekly site inspections.

Required profile

• Full driving licence and relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3.
• Experience with renewables, heat pumps, air‑conditioning and general mechanical maintenance in commercial properties.
• Comfort with the physical aspects of the role and a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
