Mechanical Engineer – Full‑Time, Heywood

About the role

Our client, a specialist engineering business based in Heywood, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their team. The role offers a chance for recent graduates or engineers with some experience to develop their skills across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to installation and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Produce mechanical designs, technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Assist in the design and development of engineered equipment and systems.
• Prepare calculations, equipment specifications and select appropriate materials.
• Support project delivery from concept to installation and commissioning.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal departments to meet project requirements.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and installation teams.
• Participate in design reviews, testing activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure solutions comply with quality, safety and environmental standards.
• Attend occasional site visits to support project activities.

Required profile

• Strong mechanical engineering knowledge with practical problem‑solving ability.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Good communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and willing to learn.
• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (desirable).
• Relevant placement, internship or industrial experience (desirable).
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Inventor (desirable).
• Background in manufacturing, engineering, utilities or related technical environment (desirable).
• Knowledge of pumps, rotating equipment or hydraulic systems (advantageous).
