Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Metrol is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D department. You will design and develop surface and downhole tools for the oil & gas industry, working on cutting‑edge technology that improves efficiency and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and systems for new and existing tools.
• Perform stress analysis calculations and generate CAD models, drawings and layouts.
• Produce engineering documentation such as procedures and reports.
• Check engineering documents and conduct test‑build and prototype testing.
• Advise on equipment ordering for new tool development.
• Participate in design reviews and support internal and external customers on technical queries.
• Maintain design files and related documentation.
• Provide on‑site support at client locations, both onshore and offshore, as required.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
• 4‑6 years of experience designing and developing downhole tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proficiency with CAD & PDM applications, preferably Autodesk Inventor and Vault.
• Competence in MS Office applications.
• Experience with mechanical components, stress analysis, and materials (metals and elastomers).
