Mechanical Engineer (Progression to Lecturer)

About the role

We are looking for a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join our technical education centre in Workington. The role combines hands‑on workshop instruction with classroom teaching, allowing you to share industry experience while progressing towards a recognised lecturing qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical Mechanical Engineering training in workshop environments.
• Plan and teach classroom sessions, develop lesson plans and schemes of work.
• Assess learner progress, provide feedback and support individual development.
• Contribute to curriculum design and course material updates.
• Work collaboratively with experienced teaching staff to achieve student outcomes.

Required profile

• Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Current experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
• Motivation to transition into a teaching and training career.
• Ability to commute to Workington.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles and workshop practices.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to learners.
• Experience in planning and delivering practical training sessions.
